Assam Rifles is the highest awarded and decorated Para Military Force of the Republic of India. Assam Rifles is called the “Sentinels of the North East”. It is the oldest military unit of the country and was established in the year 1835. Over the years, Assam Rifles has grown from 17 battalions in 1960 to 46 at present.
